Shirodhara in Rishikesh

Shirodhara, is done by allowing a steady flow of medicated oils on the forehead of the aspirant. It could be beneficial as a general way to achieve instant calm and rejuvenation. Or it can be employed in combination with other ayurvedic therapies towards the treatment of some ailments.

Shiro, means head and dhara, flow. The flow of aromatic and medicated liquids, yes, not only oils, milk, butter-milk or some other decoctions can also be used in this process, is directed towrads a point just above and between the eye-brows. In Ayurvedic literature this point is celebrated as the seat of Human consciousness and nick-named the Chakra Point.

During the session, usually extending for 30 minutes, the liquid flows gently from the Chakra point down through the temples and hair to a receptacle below. The therapy is known to relieve stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It is clinically proved that a Shirodhara session is capable of accentuating the release of dopamine, serotonin and melatonin in the human body.
